Overview

Weekly Changes provide a concise summary of the most meaningful recent developments in a player's analytical profile.

Rather than requiring users to inspect every trend value individually, NFL Fantasy Mate translates supported recent movement into clear descriptive labels.

Key question

What has meaningfully changed in this player's profile?

Weekly Changes describe recent movement. They do not measure the player's absolute quality.

Where Weekly Changes Are Used

Weekly Changes are available in:

  • Receiving Intelligence
  • Rushing Intelligence
  • Passing Intelligence

Each engine evaluates the categories relevant to that position.

Weekly Changes are not part of:

  • Historical Intelligence
  • Dynasty Market

Historical Intelligence evaluates completed seasons, while Dynasty Market uses its own market-movement indicators.

How Weekly Changes Relate to Trend Strength

Weekly Changes are derived from the recent trend information explained in the Trend Strength documentation.

The two outputs serve different purposes:

  • Trend Strength shows the direction and strength of movement.
  • Weekly Changes convert meaningful recent movement into simple descriptive signals.

Trend Strength provides analytical detail.

Weekly Changes provide a faster summary.

Category Change Labels

Each relevant category may be described as:

  • Strong Increase
  • Increase
  • Stable
  • Decrease
  • Strong Decrease

These labels indicate how the category has recently moved.

For example:

  • an increase in Role indicates growing offensive involvement;
  • an increase in Volume indicates greater opportunity;
  • a decrease in Efficiency indicates weaker recent conversion of opportunities;
  • an increase in Production indicates stronger realized output.

The meaning of each category depends on the Intelligence engine being viewed.

What Stable Means

Stable does not always mean that the category value remained completely unchanged.

It may indicate that:

  • the recent movement is too small to be considered meaningful;
  • the category has remained broadly consistent;
  • the available evidence is not yet strong enough to report a change.

This prevents ordinary weekly variation from being presented as an important analytical development.

Overall Change Direction

NFL Fantasy Mate also provides an Overall Change Direction that summarizes the combined recent category movements.

Possible directions include:

  • Strong Positive
  • Positive
  • Neutral
  • Negative
  • Strong Negative
  • Mixed

This direction helps users understand whether the player's recent analytical changes are generally favourable, unfavourable or divided across different categories.

The internal numerical calculation used to determine this label is not presented as a separate website score.

Mixed Direction

A player receives a Mixed direction when meaningful positive and negative category movements are occurring at the same time.

For example:

  • Role may be increasing;
  • Volume may be increasing;
  • Efficiency may be declining;
  • Production may remain stable.

Calling that profile simply Positive or Negative would hide useful information.

Mixed means

Important changes are occurring, but they do not all point in the same direction.

The individual category labels should be reviewed to understand the profile.

Receiving Weekly Changes

Receiving Intelligence can highlight changes in areas such as:

  • Role;
  • Volume;
  • Efficiency;
  • Production;
  • Alpha status.

After Catch is not included in Receiving Weekly Changes because short-term movement in that category can be particularly volatile and less useful as a weekly signal.

Rushing Weekly Changes

Rushing Intelligence can highlight changes in areas such as:

  • Role;
  • Receiving contribution;
  • Rushing Efficiency;
  • Output;
  • Alpha status.

Additional category movements may be displayed as supporting information, but not every displayed category necessarily influences the Overall Change Direction.

This allows NFL Fantasy Mate to preserve useful detail without allowing more volatile or overlapping signals to dominate the weekly summary.

Passing Weekly Changes

Passing Intelligence can highlight changes in:

  • Passing Efficiency;
  • Passing Production;
  • Pressure Handling;
  • Playmaking;
  • Rushing contribution.

Passing Weekly Changes do not include Alpha because quarterback evaluation does not use the same within-team Alpha structure applied to receiving and running back roles.

Alpha Changes

Receiving and Rushing Weekly Changes may identify movement in the current team-relative hierarchy.

Possible Alpha changes include:

  • Became Alpha
  • Lost Alpha
  • no Alpha change

Alpha does not describe league-wide player quality, efficiency or production. It identifies whether a player has moved into or out of the leading position within the relevant team environment.

An Alpha change is a current hierarchy signal, not a permanent player classification or a guarantee that the new order will continue.

Alpha changes are deliberately not reported during the earliest part of the season, when hierarchy signals are more likely to be unstable.

Missing Alpha

Missing Alpha is a Supporting Context signal that refers to the team environment, not to the player being evaluated.

It indicates that one or more established market-leading players in the relevant receiving group or backfield are currently unavailable.

The active players may therefore be operating under different conditions, with opportunities redistributed because an important established asset is absent.

Missing Alpha does not mean:

  • the current player has become the permanent Alpha;
  • the absent hierarchy has been permanently replaced;
  • the player is automatically a buy;
  • the altered opportunity will continue after the missing player returns.

It should be used as context when interpreting role, volume and recent movement.

Supporting Context

Weekly Changes retain only two Supporting Context signals:

  • Returned From Absence, indicating that recent movement follows a return after missed games;
  • Missing Alpha, indicating that one or more established market-leading teammates are unavailable.

Supporting Context does not alter the category changes or Overall Change Direction. Its purpose is to explain conditions that may affect the recent profile.

Weekly Changes vs OTI

Weekly Changes and OTI both describe movement, but they are not interchangeable.

OTI

OTI summarizes the broader direction of the complete analytical profile using multiple trend horizons.

Weekly Changes

Weekly Changes focus on supported recent category developments and convert them into readable labels.

A player may therefore have:

  • a positive OTI but Neutral Weekly Changes;
  • a negative OTI while showing one new positive category change;
  • Mixed Weekly Changes with an OTI near zero;
  • agreement between both outputs.

OTI provides the broader trajectory.

Weekly Changes explain what has changed recently.

Weekly Changes vs Overall Score

Overall Score measures current performance.

Weekly Changes measure recent movement.

A player can remain highly rated while showing negative Weekly Changes because his profile has weakened from an even stronger previous level.

A lower-rated player can show positive Weekly Changes because his role or performance is beginning to improve.

Weekly Changes should never be read as a ranking.

Weekly Changes Are Not Recommendations

Weekly Changes intentionally stop at measurement.

They do not automatically recommend:

  • buying;
  • selling;
  • starting;
  • benching;
  • trading;
  • dropping a player.

A positive change does not guarantee future success.

A negative change does not automatically make a player a sell.

The purpose is to identify meaningful developments so that users can combine them with football knowledge, injuries, schedule, coaching context and dynasty strategy.

How to Use Weekly Changes

  1. Review the Overall Change Direction.
  2. Examine the individual category labels.
  3. Pay particular attention when the direction is Mixed.
  4. Review Supporting Context for possible explanations.
  5. Compare the signals with OTI and Trend Strength.
  6. Check Overall Score, Team Context, Baseline and Projection before drawing a conclusion.
  7. Apply external football and dynasty context before making a roster decision.

When Weekly Changes Are Unavailable

Weekly Changes may be unavailable when there is not enough supported recent information to identify meaningful movement.

An unavailable result should not be interpreted as:

  • Stable;
  • zero;
  • poor performance;
  • no future potential.

It means NFL Fantasy Mate does not yet have enough supported movement to report a useful weekly change.

What Weekly Changes Are Not

Weekly Changes are not:

  • a player ranking;
  • a prediction;
  • a trade recommendation;
  • an isolated week-to-week points comparison;
  • a replacement for Trend Strength;
  • a measure of absolute player quality.

Their purpose is to summarize meaningful recent analytical developments.

Remember

Overall Score describes where the player stands. Trend Strength describes how the profile is moving. Weekly Changes explain what has changed recently.
